Senegal denounces CAF decision, takes legal action

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has vehemently rejected the recent ruling from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board, calling it “an unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable decision that undermines the credibility of African football.”

This reaction follows CAF’s reversal of an earlier ruling regarding the contentious match in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 between Senegal and Morocco, which awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory by forfeit.

In its formal response, the FSF acknowledged the Appeals Board’s reasoning, which stated that Morocco’s right to be heard was not honored during the initial proceedings, but strongly disagreed with both the rationale and the final judgment.

Nevertheless, Senegal’s football federation argues that this ruling jeopardizes fairness and raises questions about the integrity of governance in African football. Committed to contesting the decision, the FSF has announced its intention to elevate the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in  Lausanne.
