Team Lagos emerged victorious in the women’s football event at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, decisively overcoming the host state, Delta, in an exciting final.
The match took place at the St. Patrick’s College football pitch, where Lagos triumphed over Team Delta 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 in regular time.

Delta missed their initial penalty kick during the shootout, which was crucial as Team Lagos successfully converted their penalties, leading to celebrations among their delegates, headed by the tireless Director-General, Lekan Fatodu.
This victory marked the fifth championship for the Lagos women’s football team at the National Youth Games, while the boys’ team secured a bronze medal after a 2-0 win against Team Bayelsa in the third-place playoff.
On Thursday, Team Lagos further expanded its gold medal count with strong performances in both the volleyball and boxing finals.
The volleyball teams achieved the same score of 3-1. The boys’ team came back from losing the first set to win the final against Team Bayelsa with scores of 21-25, 26-24, 25-13, and 29-27, while the girls’ team defeated Team Kaduna 25-13, 21-25, 25-7, and 25-9.
In boxing, Team Lagos displayed dominance, earning three gold medals and one silver. Balogun Khadijat won gold in the 38kg female division, while Ramon Quam took gold in the 40kg male division. Agboola Oyindamola also claimed gold in the female category, and Idowu Adebayo received silver in the 40kg category.
