The Lagos Swimming team made a significant impact by securing multiple medals on the first day of the Swimming competition.
Team Lagos brought home seven gold and one silver medal, enhancing its medal count at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

The male swimmers contributed three golds and one silver in the 200m Individual Medley, 100m Backstroke, 4×100m Freestyle Relay, and 50m Freestyle, resulting in a total of eight medals overall.
Additionally, the Lagos gymnasts boosted the team’s standing with four medals—one gold, one silver, and two bronze—in the Boys’ Artistic Event.
Lagos’ male and female football teams continued their strong performance, with the men beating the host state, Delta, 1-0 and the women triumphing 2-0 at St. Patrick’s College Field in Asaba.
In weightlifting, Team Lagos sustained their championship ambitions by securing two silver and one bronze medal in the 55kg category.
At the event, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, attributed the impressive outcomes to the backing of their sports-friendly Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. He expressed confidence that Team Lagos would maintain its winning momentum in other sports.
“We take pride in our swimmers, who will represent Nigeria admirably, and we anticipate further victories in the upcoming events,” he stated.
Fatodu emphasized that Lagos is renowned for excellence, promising an exciting competition for all involved. He concluded, “This remarkable performance reflects the state’s dedication to fostering young talent and promoting excellence in sports.”
