Adeleke announced his exit from the party on Monday evening, attributing his decision to the PDP’s prolonged internal leadership crisis.

The resignation, first communicated privately on November 4, 2025, but made public nearly a month later, makes Adeleke the fifth PDP governor to defect in 2025, deepening concerns over the party’s dwindling national influence ahead of critical elections in 2026.

A Letter of Gratitude and a Break from Crisis

Adeleke’s one-page resignation letter, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Abogunde Ward 2 in Ede North LGA, conveyed both appreciation and frustration.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunities the party afforded him, noting: “I thank the PDP for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator and as Governor of Osun State.”

The letter carried the official seal of the Osun State Government and was acknowledged by local party officials on the same day, confirming receipt.

Shortly after the announcement, Adeleke posted the letter on his verified X handle, @AAdeleke_01, explaining that the PDP’s unresolved national crises had forced him to re-evaluate his political future.

PDP’s Unending Crisis: A Party in Disarray

Adeleke’s exit comes at a time when the PDP is battling intense factional disputes, court battles over national leadership, and widespread defections.

Political observers trace the crisis to the fallout from the 2023 general elections, which deepened divisions between major power blocs within the party. Internal schisms involving prominent figures such as Nyesom Wike and Atiku Abubakar have left the PDP’s national executive weakened and deeply fractured.
