Zulum leads N/East govs to Tinubu, requests completion of 17 roads, oil exploration

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum headed a group of North East governors who met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday. The discussion, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, centered on pressing issues in the North East, particularly the urgent completion of 17 essential road projects and the revival of oil exploration in areas like the Kolmani and Lake Chad wells.

Other governors present included Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya from Gombe, Bala Muhammad from Bauchi, Mai Mala Buni from Yobe, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri from Adamawa, and Agbu Keffas from Taraba.

In his address, Zulum, who chairs the North East Governors Forum, appealed to the president for the swift completion of the ongoing road projects and the construction of key roads linking all six states in the region. The list of roads includes the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt-Jos-Bauchi-Maiduguri Railway line, and several others vital for connectivity in the area.

Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to the president for his dedication to restoring peace in the North East, stating, “We appreciate your efforts in promoting stability in the region and your continuation of your predecessor’s initiatives against insurgency.”

He assured the president of their support for his plans on workforce training and technological advancements aimed at tackling insecurity in the North East. “We are fully committed to aligning with your strategy of workforce training and technology provision to combat insurgency and enhance agricultural growth in line with your food security agenda,” Zulum remarked.

He concluded by expressing the high regard the North East governors hold for the president, affirming their commitment to collaborate with him in delivering effective governance and establishing a lasting legacy for Nigeria.

In response, President Tinubu recognized the governors’ concerns and promised his administration’s dedication to meeting the developmental needs of the North East.
