President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved N16.7 billion for the immediate reconstruction of the Mokwa Bridge in Niger State, which was severely damaged by flooding in May 2025. This was disclosed by the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, during a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday.

The Mokwa Bridge, a critical infrastructure link on the Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa Road, connects Nigeriaβs northern and southern regions, facilitating the movement of goods and people.
The Lagos Voice reports that the flooding caused by heavy rainfall rendered the bridge impassable for commuters and commerce.
Umahi reiterated the urgency of the project saying, βThe President is committed to restoring this vital artery to ensure seamless connectivity and economic activity.β The allocated funds will cover the reconstruction of the bridge, reinforcement of its structural integrity, and measures to prevent future flood damage.

The Minister also assured Nigerians that reputable contractors will execute the project under strict timelines to restore normalcy to the route. According to him, the Federal Government is working with the Niger State government to address other flood-affected areas and improve disaster resilience.
The reconstruction is expected to start within weeks, with completion targeted before the 2026 rainy season. Motorists and commuters have welcomed the development, expressing relief after months of detours and delays.
