The Mokwa Bridge, a critical infrastructure link on the Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa Road, connects Nigeria’s northern and southern regions, facilitating the movement of goods and people.

The Lagos Voice reports that the flooding caused by heavy rainfall rendered the bridge impassable for commuters and commerce.

Umahi reiterated the urgency of the project saying, β€œThe President is committed to restoring this vital artery to ensure seamless connectivity and economic activity.” The allocated funds will cover the reconstruction of the bridge, reinforcement of its structural integrity, and measures to prevent future flood damage.

According to him, the Federal Government is working with the Niger State government to address other flood-affected areas and improve disaster resilience.

The reconstruction is expected to start within weeks, with completion targeted before the 2026 rainy season. Motorists and commuters have welcomed the development, expressing relief after months of detours and delays.
