Comoros are making their second appearance at AFCON finals.

 

The long awaited 2025 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will officially get underway this Sunday, 21 December, 2025 in the Magreb. (19h00 GMT)

Hosts Morocco face The Coelacanths of Comoros in the tournament’s opening match that will be played at the iconic Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Anticipation buzzing with in the host nation and across the globe, the continental showpiece makes return to the home of Atlas Lions for the first time ever since 1988.

Morocco carrying a huge ambitionon of  reaching success in front of the home crowd confront Stefano Cusin’s troops ready to leave a mark following their debut in 2021.

This will be a second meeting at AFCON finals between the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalsts and Comoros and a successive feat for the visitors playing against a host nation.

Morocco seeking for a perfect start boast of big names plying their trade in top European leagues, handing them a competitive edge over Comoros who are ranked 108th globally.

The tournament curtain raiser will be officiated by Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala alongside match assistants Guylain Bongele Ngila (DR Congo), Mwanya Gradel Mbilizi (DR Congo) and Messie Nkounkou (Republic of Congo) acting as the fourth official.
