The Lagos premiere of Nigerian crime thriller Black Market has set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest attendance at a film premiere/screening, with 51,258 people recorded at the event.
The record-breaking premiere was held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.

The official Guinness World Records adjudicator, Mark McKinley, announced the result after the completion of the screening and verification process. He said only attendees who were present at both the beginning and end of the film were eligible to be counted.
According to McKinley, the previous record stood at 43,624 attendees, achieved in the Philippines in 2015.
The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, who attended the event alongside the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, congratulated the organisers and participants.

Hamzat said the achievement demonstrated Nigeria’s creative potential and stressed the need for continued investment in the country’s cultural and creative industries.
He noted that while infrastructure such as roads and hospitals remained important, government must also create an enabling environment for the creative sector to thrive.

Producer of Black Market, Nora Awolowo, described the event as bigger than the film itself, saying the gathering demonstrated what could be achieved when people dared to dream beyond the ordinary.
The event featured music, food and games, attracting several celebrities, including Omowunmi Dada, Femi Adebayo, Gabriel Afolayan, Lateef Adedimeji, Bimpe Adedimeji, Real Warri Pikin and Tomi Ojo.
Black Market, directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Awolowo, stars Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini and Uzor Arukwe, among others.
The event was supported by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, alongside corporate partners.
The record adds to Lagos’ growing profile as a major hub for entertainment, tourism, arts and creative enterprise in Nigeria.
