Titans Athletics, the reigning champions of the Community Flag Football League (CFFL), are not merely content with local dominance but are driven by a bold vision to become the premier flag football institution in Africa. The organisation is meticulously building a legacy that extends far beyond domestic titles.
“What is our vision? We cannot simply be trying to win local championships. We’ve done that already – twice. We need to be the premier flag football institution in Africa,” a short management meeting in early 2023 set the ambitious tone for Titans Athletics.

The organisation has rightfully earned its reputation as one of the most respected flag football programs in Nigeria and across the African continent.
Their recent triumph in Season 1 of the 2025 CFFL saw the Titans join Spartans FC as only the second Nigerian team to secure three domestic championships.

They also hold the national record for most finals appearances, consistently producing top performers in both offensive and defensive categories.
From local Champions to Continental icons
The Titans’ influence, however, transcends national borders. Just days after their latest CFFL Championship victory, a significant contingent of Titans, including current players, coaches, and academy graduates, were selected to represent Nigeria in the inaugural male and female national flag football teams, organised by the Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA).

This national representation culminated in a landmark achievement: double-gold medals for Team Nigeria at the 2025 IFAF African Continental Championships in Cairo, Egypt. Titans Athletics were undeniably at the heart of this historic continental triumph.
The path to their current success hasn’t been without its challenges. After becoming the first Nigerian team to win back-to-back championships in 2020 and 2021, the Titans faced periods of heartbreak, enduring finals losses and tough playoff exits. Their response was not excuses, but evolution.
Their Season 1 CFFL championship campaign was characterised by elite execution on both sides of the ball. The defensive unit, aptly nicknamed “Strap City,” led the league in takeaways and conceded the fewest points.
This formidable defence is anchored by Team Nigeria Captain, Okabonye Chukwuani, widely considered the best two-way player in Nigeria. His leadership, exceptional football IQ, and physical dominance are the driving force behind the Titans’ defence and a game-changing asset on offense.

“Our offense has been the highest scoring… but that did not win us anything. Everyone always says offense wins games, defense wins championships… we had to make that our reality. You better be careful throwing the ball around Mount Olympus,” remarked Okabonye Chukwuani, who plays both Wide Receiver and Defensive Back for the Titans and serves as Team Nigeria’s Defensive Captain.
Offensively, the Titans employ a precise and balanced West-Coast style system, emphasising timing, route discipline, and defensive recognition.
This surgical offence is orchestrated by Kenny Nwankwo, a product of the South Florida (USA) football system and one of the most prolific quarterbacks in African flag football history. Under his astute leadership, the Titans consistently field one of the league’s most dangerous scoring units.
Beyond Nigeria – Titans Go Continental
While domestic dominance forms their bedrock, continental impact remains their ultimate objective.
In Cairo, Titans standouts Kenny Nwankwo, Okabonye Chukwuani, Eniola Adebayo, and Chiazor Ekekezie, alongside several former Titans, were pivotal contributors to Team Nigeria’s double-gold victory against ten other top African nations. The Titans are not just nurturing champions; they are actively shaping the national identity of flag football across Africa.
What truly distinguishes the Titans is their robust structure. Their comprehensive system, which integrates meticulous film analysis, innovative tactical play design, professional coaching, and dedicated player development, has become the gold standard in Nigerian flag football.
Other teams are now actively emulating their successful model, and Titans players are consistently scouted and sought after across the league, a testament to the effectiveness of their approach.
In a sport still striving for mainstream recognition, the Titans have undeniably set the benchmark for excellence.
“Flag football in Nigeria is about to become a big deal, with the Mighty Mighty Titans leading the charge, of course!” enthused Alaezi Akpuru, Titans Co-Owner and CEO of Virgilio Fashion.
What’s Next? “We Want Some More!”
With their sights firmly set on CFFL Season 2 and the highly anticipated 2026 IFAF World Championships, which serve as an Olympic qualifier, the Titans remain intensely focused.
“Everybody has to be prepared to be great. In order to do that, we must prepare like the Greats. We must accept the burden of great expectations,” stated Kenny Nwankwo, Titans QB and Team Nigeria Head Coach, encapsulating the team’s unwavering commitment.
He further added, “We are building a foundation that will stand the test of time. Something that we can be proud of — that Nigeria can be proud of.”
As Nigerian flag football enters an exciting new era of growth and recognition, one thing is abundantly clear: Titans Athletics are not merely participating in the game; they are fundamentally changing its trajectory.
