Davido Breaks Silence After Appointment as Chairman of Osun State Sports Trust Fund

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted to his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, expressing readiness to get to work in transforming the state’s sports sector.

The Osun State Government announced Davido’s appointment earlier this week as part of efforts to raise funds and drive sustainable development across the state’s sporting institutions.

Confirming the appointment on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Davido wrote:

The move aims to attract private investments and partnerships that will enhance sports infrastructure and empower young athletes in Osun.

Government Targets Olympic-Standard Facilities

According to the state government, the creation of the Sports Trust Fund aligns with plans to modernize and upgrade sporting facilities, including the Osogbo Township Stadium, which is currently undergoing renovation.

Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the appointment and emphasised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to making Osun a hub for sports excellence.

 

“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi said.

“Plans are in advanced stages for the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.

“The introduction of a Sports Trust Fund will attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.

Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment. His intervention will attract funds that will impact Osun sports positively.”
