The announcement, made in a public notice signed by the council manager Mrs. Oluwakemi Oshun on Friday, urged residents, businesses, and stakeholders to update their records with the new street names, which take immediate effect.
“The exercise is intended to improve navigation, identity management, and strengthen the cultural and historical relevance of street names across Eti-Osa,” the statement read.
The renamed streets are:
Tony Amadasun Road (Igbo Efon) ➝ Chief Femi Pedro Road
Dr. Udo Wogu Drive (Chevy View) ➝ Chief Adebola Dosunmu Drive
Augusta Orji Street (Aro Ologolo Road) ➝ Alhaji Adio Mayegun Street
Chike Mba Close (Osapa London) ➝ Hon. Sikiru Ashorota Close
Ugochukwu Orji Street (Igbo Efon) ➝ Barr. Wale Sanni Street
Fubara Dublin Green Street (Igbo Efon) ➝ Rafiu Olukolu Street

The move follows intense backlash over a similar renaming exercise in Bariga LCDA, where streets and landmarks were controversially renamed, including the now-infamous switch of Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop.
That decision sparked widespread criticism, with prominent Nigerians, including human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), calling it “unconstitutional.”

Critics argue that such changes lack proper consultation with residents and local stakeholders, and they question the criteria used to select honorees.
Despite the uproar, the Eti-Osa council insists its street revalidation exercise is in line with urban development plans and community engagement goals.
