A new development has surfaced in the leadership turmoil within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as acting National Chairman Nafiu Bala has denied endorsing David Mark’s ascension as interim leader.
During an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), Bala stated he was misled into attending the announcement event for Mark, asserting he did not endorse the leadership change. He claimed the invitation he received was pitched as a meeting to welcome new coalition members, rather than a leadership shift.

“I was deceived into attending the ceremony for David Mark. Ralph told me it was merely to adopt new members into the coalition,” Bala explained. “However, on that same day, Nwosu declared his resignation and quickly introduced David Mark along with other executive members.”
He accused former party chairman Ralph Nwosu of orchestrating the transition without proper consultation, calling it a shock to crucial party stakeholders.
Bala, who held the position of Deputy National Chairman at the time, asserted he was not informed of any plans to transfer leadership to Mark or appoint Rauf Aregbesola as interim National Secretary.

In response to the situation, he initiated discussions with members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC), subsequently informing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of his status as the rightful acting National Chairman.
Furthermore, he revealed that INEC had allegedly claimed he resigned from his role as Deputy National Chairman, a claim he refuted, calling it part of a larger deceit. He confirmed that the matter has been taken to court for resolution.
As of now, neither Nwosu nor the Mark-led faction has addressed the accusations.
The ADC is currently facing a worsening internal conflict, with several factions vying for control. Beyond Bala and the Mark faction, another group loyal to Dumebi Kachikwu is also claiming leadership.
This ongoing strife has sparked worries leading up to the 2027 general elections, with concerns that the party may have difficulty presenting a united front.
Meanwhile, INEC has distanced itself from the conflict, stating it will not recognize or oversee any faction’s activities until the leadership dispute is settled by the Federal High Court.
