The EFCC has announced that its investigation into former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa regarding alleged corruption is still in progress. They have refuted claims that he is being protected because of his switch to the APC.
Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC Chairman, clarified this at a press conference marking his second anniversary in office.

Olukoyede, speaking through Sylvanus Tahir, the EFCC’s Director of Legal and Prosecution and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, rejected the accusations, emphasizing that the EFCC operates independently and is not subject to political pressures.
He stated, “Someone inquired about allegations that politicians who join the ruling party are being shielded. The straightforward answer is that this is false.
“I believe the reference pertains to a former governor of Delta State. To the best of my knowledge, this case is still under investigation, and justice will ultimately prevail.
“We have previously faced situations where cases were prematurely taken to court, resulting in unfavorable outcomes. Therefore, we prefer to conduct a comprehensive investigation. When we present our case in court, Nigerians will understand the details.
“There is no effort or intention to protect anyone for changing parties, certainly not under this chairman.”
