The Kaduna State Government has expressed its worries regarding the low participation in the current voter registration process and is calling on council chairmen, traditional leaders, religious figures, and the media to intensify their mobilization efforts.
Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the Commissioner for Information, stated that Governor Uba Sani has put forward practical initiatives to motivate more eligible voters to register and engage in the democratic process.

He made these comments during a stakeholders’ meeting focused on identifying the obstacles to voter registration and forming strategies to boost participation.
Maiyaki noted that initial data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicates that Kaduna State, alongside other North West states, is lagging in voter registration figures, a development that has caught the federal government’s notice.
He pointed out that the meeting included a diverse group of stakeholders because of their essential roles in connecting with various community segments. “This is not a political issue,” he emphasized. “It’s about motivating youth, women, the elderly, and all societal groups to engage actively in this civic responsibility.”
The commissioner praised local government chairmen who have started awareness initiatives in their communities. He mentioned that the meeting provided a forum for sharing experiences and coordinating grassroots strategies.
The event was organized into two sessions: a preliminary discussion with the media to enhance awareness, followed by a technical session with council chairmen to boost community-level mobilization.
