With Sporting Lagos joining the top flight, Lagos is now set to have three teams competing in the NPFL next season.
“With Lagos now set to host three teams in the NPFL next season, it further cements its reputation as the true hub of sports in Nigeria,” Kayode noted.
The development is seen as a boost for the state’s football profile and competitive presence nationally.
Despite the progress, Kayode raised concerns about the state of infrastructure, warning that existing facilities may struggle to cope with increased demand.
He pointed out that Onikan Stadium is already heavily utilized.
“Infrastructure must rise to meet this progress,” he stressed.
He urged the Lagos State Government to fast-track the readiness of key venues such as Agege Stadium and Teslim Balogun Stadium.
“The growing demands of top-flight football require more suitable venues,” Kayode said.
Kayode emphasized that improving stadium infrastructure would have far-reaching benefits beyond matchdays.
“Investing in stadium infrastructure will not only support the clubs but also boost fan engagement, local economy, and grassroots football development,” he explained.
