Adebo Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, stated that terrorists holding hostage schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area are demanding weapons, money, and legal concessions as conditions for their release.
Ogundoyin made these statements during a discussion on whether governments should engage in negotiations with kidnappers and armed groups to secure the freedom of victims.

He noted that the captors’ demands extend beyond mere ransom and involve items that could enhance their capabilities and affect governance.
“To bring these children and teachers back, if it were up to you, would you negotiate with terrorists who demand weapons, money, and changes to future laws as part of their ransom?” he asked.

He also posed the question: “If you were the governor, would you agree to such demands? Would you allow these individuals back into the community?”
The Speaker cautioned that negotiating with such groups might exacerbate insecurity. “The more you negotiate with these individuals, the more you empower them,” he warned.
His remarks come in the wake of public outcry and calls for urgent action in light of the abduction of pupils and teachers during attacks on the Esiele and Yawota communities on May 15.
