This attack, which reportedly took place last Friday, involved gunmen assaulting the LA Primary School in the area, abducting teachers and students, and provoking widespread outrage and alarm among the local populace.
Bwala acknowledged the escalating security challenges but emphasized the government’s resolve to restore safety and peace across the country. He pointed out that criminal activity exists globally, regardless of governmental strength, and highlighted the importance of collaboration among citizens, security agencies, and local communities in combating insecurity.
He noted that the loss of innocent lives to crime understandably evokes anger and sorrow among Nigerians, describing each such tragedy as a significant loss for the nation.

Bwala also mentioned that insecurity often intensifies during election periods, suggesting that crises tend to arise before elections due to a “crisis economy,” where certain individuals reportedly exploit instability for political or economic advantages. He highlighted similar trends before the elections in 2014, 2018, 2022, and the upcoming 2026 cycle.
The presidential advisor reinforced that Nigerians have the constitutional right to self-defense, especially when facing direct threats to their lives and property. “The constitution guarantees every citizen the right to self-defense,” he stated, emphasizing that individuals can legally protect themselves against intruders with malicious intent.
Moreover, Bwala pointed to the importance of vigilante groups and community-based security frameworks, referencing Borno State, where local paramilitary and vigilante organizations play crucial roles in supporting security agencies with intelligence and coordination.
He clarified that Nigerians are not allowed to possess prohibited firearms without government authorization and stated that communities seeking organized security initiatives must receive proper approval from the relevant authorities.
These remarks from the Presidency come amid rising concerns over insecurity, kidnappings, and violent assaults in various regions of the country as the 2027 general elections approach.
