The senior category saw Eric Moore School dominate the contest with a well-researched and eloquent argument, beating New Era and Surulere Girls to second and third place.
Empowering Girls Through Dialogue
Speaking after the event, SNWFSC President, Jadesola Adelabu, said the debate competition was designed to build confidence and critical thinking among girls while encouraging them to engage with real-world issues.
“We’ve been consistent with this vision for five years,” Adelabu told ECHONEWS.
She added, “It’s not just about football; it’s about empowering the girl child intellectually and socially. The debates help them speak up, think deeply, and express themselves on important topics.”
Adelabu added that the club has continued to expand its programs each year, introducing workshops, medical talks, and quizzes alongside sporting activities.
“There were lots of highlights this year, workshops, medical sessions, and debate competitions. I’m proud of how far these girls have come, and I believe next year will be even better,” she said.
Football and Creativity Take the Spotlight
As part of the celebrations, SNWFSC also hosted a grassroots women’s football competition, where Ablaze Amazons emerged champions, defeating Victory Queens in the final. Unizee Sheila finished third.
The creative presentation segment showcased artwork and crafts from the participating schools. Eric Moore School once again led the pack, followed by Onitolo Community Girls and Surulere Girls.
For five years, the Sapphire Nigeria Women Football Supporters Club has used its annual Girl Child Day to champion education, creativity, and sports as platforms for female empowerment and leadership development — a vision that continues to grow stronger each year.
