Egbewole gave the commendation on Friday, April 17, 2026, when he led a delegation of the university’s management team on a courtesy visit to Olukoyede at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.

The Vice Chancellor praised what he described as massive recoveries of proceeds of crime and their redirection toward national development, noting that resolving the challenge of economic and financial crimes remained central to building a better Nigeria.

He also highlighted Olukoyede’s back-to-back election as Chairman of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) as a testament to his leadership qualities.

Egbewole disclosed that the visit was motivated by the university’s desire to partner with the EFCC in the fight against corruption and in promoting ethical behaviour in Nigeria’s electioneering process, drawing on the work of the university’s Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies.

Responding, Olukoyede reaffirmed that fraud prevention remains the cornerstone of his leadership at the EFCC, disclosing that recovered funds had been channeled to initiatives including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) and the Credit Corporation.

He, however, raised concerns about the rising involvement of university students in cybercrime, noting that over 80 percent of inmates observed during a recent visit to the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Office were young people, many of them university students.

Both officials pledged to collaborate, leveraging their respective West African institutional roles Egbewole as head of the Association of West African Universities and Olukoyede as NACIWA President to advance anti-corruption initiatives across the subregion.
