Mamman was found guilty on May 7 of 16 amended charges involving the laundering of over ₦33.8 billion and was sentenced in absentia to 75 years in prison on May 13.

His case involved allegations of misappropriating funds and unlawfully acquiring high-value properties associated with significant power initiatives, such as the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric projects.

Following his conviction, the EFCC reported that Mamman fled from Abuja to Kaduna but was apprehended on May 19 in the Rigasa neighborhood, along with a relative.

Justice Omotosho made it clear that Mamman’s prison sentence would officially start immediately after the hearing, noting that he left Abuja alone after the judgment was issued.

While Mamman maintained that he missed court proceedings due to health issues, the EFCC has sought the court’s approval for the forfeiture of five additional properties linked to the former minister. These properties, which include apartments, mansions, and a plaza located in Wuse 2, are situated in Abuja and Kaduna.

The court has postponed the hearing on the forfeiture request until June 8, 2026, to give Mamman the opportunity to respond.
