During a discussion about national unity and governance, he expressed that Nigerians should be judged on their contributions rather than where they come from.

He stated: “Evaluate us based on our actions and then make your judgments. I don’t want to hear about being from the north, south, or east. My identity is that I am Nigerian.”

He added that if he were elected, he would discard the existing classification based on indigeneity. “As President, there will be no distinction of indigineship. Instead, there will just be citizenship. We must identify as Nigerians first, rather than by regional or religious identities when seeking votes.”

Regarding the issue of federal character, he affirmed, “There will be no federal character; every Nigerian will be treated as a member of the federation.”

He did, however, recognize that the policy was initially created to address structural inequalities.

Using an example, Amaechi connected unemployment and social unrest to systemic failures, arguing that economic inclusion could lower crime rates.

He explained, “For instance, if everyone had a job, would there be armed robbers? If we’re all engaged in work, we wouldn’t have time for crime since we’d be busy from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.”

He concluded that issues such as robbery and kidnapping are primarily driven by economic difficulties rather than moral failings. “The increase in crime and kidnapping is a reflection of a flawed system.”
