The 4th JGM Squash U-16 and U-19 Boys and Girls Championship in Abeokuta came to an end on Saturday and the thrilling finals were delivered by emerging talents who showcased their dominance across categories.

At the U-16 girls’ final, Ahisat Abdulraheem from Kwara State edged out compatriot Loveth Balogun in a gripping five-set encounter, winning 3-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9) to claim the title.
For the U-16 boys’ category a commanding performance from Ayomide Omotayo of Ogun State defeated Peter Adeleke in straight sets, 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-8), pointing to his superiority throughout the match.
While Abdulraheem returned to court at the U-19 girls’ final to complete a remarkable double, once again she overcame Loveth Balogun in another closely contested five-set match. She won 3-2 (11-7, 10-12, 11-2, 9-11, 11-9) to secure her second title of the tournament.

Kwara’s Muhibudeen Shehu delivered a composed performance in their U-19 boys’ final to defeat his opponent 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-7), sealing the championship with a straight-sets victory.

The finals were capped with an exciting four days of the competition, and standout performances spotlighted the depth of young talent in display.depth of young squash talent.
Sponsor of the JGM Squash Championship, Emmanuel Oyewumi, expressed satisfaction over the level of talent exhibited and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the sport’s growth.

This fourth edition, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, featured 79 participants across all categories. As a former champion, I will continue to support this initiative to provide opportunities that will help them reach their full potential,” he said.
Special guests of honour, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo and former Green Eagles captain Segun Odegbami, also addressed the players, urging them to strive for excellence while warning against taking shortcuts to success.
