The Lagos State Police Command has rejected social media claims asserting that armed bandits have invaded the communities of Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, and Oke-Afo, labeling the rumors as misleading and potentially panic-inducing.
In a statement released on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that there is no security crisis, coordinated attack, or bandit invasion anywhere in Lagos State, emphasizing the safety of schools and communities statewide.

The police indicated that the misleading messages were spread intentionally to instill fear among residents. They reassured the public that security forces are actively monitoring and maintaining a strong presence throughout Lagos to protect lives and property.
The statement emphasized, “There is currently no security crisis, invasion, or coordinated attack on any school or community in Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, Oke-Afo, or any other area of Lagos State.”
Unfortunately, the false security alert has resulted in a tragic incident. A 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Kulaha Ayuba, was reportedly killed after being mistakenly identified as a Fulani bandit.

According to the police, some youths attacked Ayuba based on inaccurate online information that portrayed him as a criminal. His motorcycle was stolen during the assault, and his body was later found in a swamp nearby.
The police have arrested 15 suspects linked to the murder, and they are currently cooperating with investigators.
Adebisi stated that all responsible individuals would face prosecution, and those who create and spread false information that could incite violence, ethnic tensions, or public unrest would also be held accountable.
βThe Command assures the public that all individuals found culpable will be subjected to full legal consequences,β the statement added.

Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh urged residents to stay calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, advising against trusting unverified social media reports. He encouraged people to report any suspicious activities through official security channels and to the nearest police stations.
This situation arises as local authorities in the affected areas strive to reassure residents. Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Chairman Abdullahi Olowa recently urged against ethnic profiling and vigilantism in response to reports of unfamiliar individuals in some neighborhoods.
Meanwhile, the Imota Local Council Development Area has refuted claims that two schoolgirls were killed in a bandit attack on a primary school, asserting that the community remains safe and secure.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its dedication to maintaining security throughout the state and urged residents to check facts with reliable sources before disseminating information, cautioning that misinformation can lead to serious consequences.
