The Lagos State government has reiterated its dedication to providing safe and high-quality healthcare for children as it participated in the global observance of World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) 2025.
The event, organized by the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), took place on Wednesday at NECA House in Alausa, Ikeja, under the theme: “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child.”

During the ceremony, Dr. Olukemi Ogunyemi, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, emphasized that patient safety starts with pregnancy and extends through childbirth and beyond. She called on health workers, parents, and community leaders to serve as champions of safety, highlighting that “every child has the right to safe and quality care.” She further stated that, in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda, the state remains committed to delivering affordable healthcare to everyone.
In a goodwill message, Hon. Lawal, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, also addressed the audience, affirming legislative support to stronger laws and oversight in the Health sector.

Additonally, the Executive Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu emphasised that children are not “little adults” and must be handled with special attention. She cautioned against unsafe practices such as misdiagnoses and delays in care, urging parents to prioritise antenatal care and vaccinations.
