Lagos State speaker’s son becomes Agege new Chairman following resignation of Hon. Azeez

Ganiu Obasa, the son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has taken on the role of Chairman of Agege Local Government after the resignation of the previous chairman, Hon. Tunde Azeez, who is also known as Disco, due to health issues.

According to various sources, Hon. Azeez stepped down less than 100 days after being sworn in and had been on medical leave for several weeks, during which Ganiu Obasa acted as the interim chairman. His resignation clears the path for Ganiu to officially take over the leadership of the council.

This situation has stirred some political debates, with certain party members suggesting that the transition had been planned from the very beginning.

Sources who spoke with reporters revealed that Speaker Mudashiru Obasa had initially aimed for his son to receive the party’s nomination to run for chairperson, but this request was declined. Subsequently, he reportedly backed his political associate, Tunde Azeez, in securing the chairmanship position, while his son Ganiu was appointed as vice chairman.

Just a few weeks after Azeez took office, he reportedly went on health leave, leaving Ganiu in charge. Many observers now suspect that Azeez’s early departure was part of a political strategy to pave the way for Obasa’s son to become the council chairman.

In the meantime, residents of Agege have praised Ganiu Obasa for his leadership during his acting period, especially for enhancing environmental sanitation and creating a cleaner community, which they view as a significant improvement over the leadership of former chairman Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, who Azeez replaced.

As Ganiu officially steps into his role, people are now curious about how he will navigate his new responsibilities.
