A petrol tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded on Sunday at Iyana-Isolo, inward Oshodi, Lagos, sparking panic along the busy corridor and destroying at least four other trucks parked nearby.

Swift Emergency Response
Eyewitnesses said the situation could have resulted in a large-scale tragedy had it not been for the swift intervention of emergency responders.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, police divisions from Aswani, Ilasa and Mushin, and the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, quickly moved to the scene.

According to LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the fire was successfully contained after personnel cordoned off the area and diverted traffic away from the danger zone.
He added that reinforcements from adjoining zones were deployed to boost the operation.
No Casualties Recorded
Bakare-Oki confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident, attributing the positive outcome to effective coordination among the agencies involved.
He, however, cautioned tanker and heavy-duty truck drivers against reckless speeding, which preliminary findings linked to the cause of the accident.
