Almost six lives, ranging from police officer and five others were killed in a collision involving multiple trucks on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Kara Bridge on Wednesday night.
Reports indicate that the accident included several large vehicles, such as a fuel tanker, a truck carrying containers, and another transporting biscuit cartons. One of the deceased was reportedly burned beyond recognition, while others suffered various injuries.

Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, confirmed the incident and mentioned that initial investigations suggest brake failure as the probable cause. “We lost a police inspector in the crash, and those responsible will face prosecution,” he added, noting that three injured individuals were transported to the hospital.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel, along with other emergency services, responded to the situation. The traffic jam affected both lanes of the expressway, prompting some drivers to travel against traffic.
Commercial transport fares between Berger and Oshodi surged from ₦1,000 to as much as ₦2,500. This tragic event occurred less than a day after a different truck accident on Otedola Bridge, raising alarms about the frequency of road accidents on this busy highway.
