Posts on X (Twitter) indicate that the challenge rooted in the TikTok remix of a line from Olamide’s song Wo! is no longer being discussed solely for entertainment. Many users are openly grappling with what the trend says about social media behavior and youth culture.

Some Twitter users have expressed discomfort and moral concern over participation in the trend. One post by @Boytiphe read:“Aunty Shakira dance Shakiti, I’m ngl a lot is going on right there.”

Others highlighted personal and relational concerns. @4ODIIN wrote: “My girlfriend wants to join the ‘Aunty Shakira dance Shakiti challenge’. She sent me the video and I said ‘NO’ but she still insists.”

Additional posts warned about long-term consequences of participation. @joojobryte tweeted: “Everyone talking about how girls that hop on the Aunty Shakira trend will regret it later in the future.”

Some users offered general commentary on the trend’s reach. @Pheelz simply noted: “Aunty Shakira dance Shakiti 👌🏾.”
Other critical reactions on X include: @Benjaminchuks0 expressing emotional discomfort: “As I see that aunty Shakira trend no so I burst tears for Nigerian girls.”

@ininghe_ reflecting on social criticism: “Na girls way no get nyash they criticize Aunty Shakira challenge and if you follow for that trend I go consider you OS.”

The discussion is not limited to X. On Instagram, a recent Reel by content creator @joysmmexpert cautioned followers against focusing solely on social media validation. In the video, he said: “For ladies hopping on the Aunty Shakira TikTok trend, remember this: Social media can give you attention, but only growth can give you value. Likes don’t equal skills. Trending doesn’t equal success. Have fun, enjoy the trends, but don’t forget to build your mind too. Your future needs more than just validation. Think about it. Grow your mind, build your value.

These cross-platform reactions underscore a growing debate about the trend’s implications for personal dignity, online reputation, and the broader digital culture that celebrates visibility and virality.

While some continue to engage with “Aunty Shakira” videos for entertainment, the surge of cautionary commentary suggests a significant portion of the public now views the trend with skepticism or concern.
