Makinde increases salaries of security guards at LAUTECH Hospital

Governor Seyi Makinde has raised the salaries of security guards at LAUTECH Hospital from N18,800 to N80,000 following a public complaint made by one of the guards during his visit on September 30. The security guard expressed the struggles faced by him and his colleagues, emphasizing their difficulties as non-permanent staff without access to essential benefits.

He pleaded for assistance, stating, “We are suffering. I have a family with three children. Please help us.” The governor took note of his concerns and inquired about their current salaries, to which the guard replied with their low pay of N18,800. A senior hospital official then clarified that their security services were outsourced, with the contractor paying N27,000 per guard.

In response, Governor Makinde directed that all 67 security guards be reclassified as ad hoc workers with an increased salary of N80,000 starting October 1, and he ordered the hospital to terminate its contract with the outsourcing firm.
