The gridlock, which reportedly extended to the Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun–Sagamu Expressway, caused widespread frustration among road users.

Observers at the scene described a chaotic situation, as some drivers attempted dangerous U-turns while others abandoned their vehicles altogether.

Many stranded commuters were seen resorting to commercial motorcycles or trekking long distances along the Sagamu and Abeokuta corridors in a bid to escape the standstill.

In response to the situation, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) issued a public advisory urging motorists to avoid the affected axis.

“Consequently, travelers are advised to take alternative routes, particularly for those that are just driving towards the axis and for those that are already held up in the traffic jam,” said TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi.

While the cause of the gridlock remains unclear, road users are appealing to relevant authorities for urgent intervention to ease the congestion and restore free flow of traffic on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
