Peter Obi is a Great asset – Abdullah declares
Speaking on Arise News on Thursday night, Abdullahi emphasised Obi’s significance, particularly given his performance in the last presidential election.
He said, “Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP indeed wants to get him back. He is a very great capital for any political party, and any political party that will have him will be to their advantage.”

He further lauded Obi’s electoral showing in 2023, remarking, “The truth of the matter is if he had not gone the way he did in the last dispensation and proved that mettle to generate over six million despite the rigging and frustration of his chances in many of the states. Peter Obi is truly a political capital no doubt about it.”
Peter Obi, a former vice-presidential candidate for the PDP, left the party in the lead-up to the 2023 general election to secure the presidential ticket of the Labour Party.
In that election, he contested against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar. Despite coming in third behind Tinubu (who was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC) and Atiku, Obi secured victories in twelve states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, demonstrating a significant grassroots appeal.

The move to woo Obi back comes amidst his recent claims of still being a member of the Labour Party, even as he expressed willingness to collaborate with a newly formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in both the last two general elections, has reportedly resigned from the party.

Atiku is recognised as a prominent figure within a broader coalition of political leaders aiming to challenge the incumbent president in the 2027 presidential elections through the ballot box.
The potential return of Peter Obi to the PDP could significantly reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
